UPSERJ Co-Founder Diana Coleman Makes Long Island Press's Top 50 "POWER LIST"
![]()
"Known as forceful, hardworking and a powerful speaker, this community activist was the plaintiff who forced Nassau County to get everybody's property reassessed. She has been chair of the Economic Opportunity Commission board, was a co-founder of the antiracism group UPSERJ and has worked on economic development issues. Now she wants to bring to the county a Civilian Complaint Review Board, like the one in NYC, to oversee police. You can LOVE HER or HATE HER depending on how your reassessment goes."

WHO WE ARE
What do you want to change on Long Island? How can we help?
We're UPSERJ, the Long Island group that works to empower those most affected by a lack of social justice. Through the Social Justice Empowerment model, authored by co-founder Bob Lepley, we work against racism, especially institutionalized racism, and poverty.
We are an activist coalition of over 50 groups on Long Island, fighting for the rights of tenants, workers and local communities. We have 11 action campaigns ongoing. We've only been around three years, but have recently won four major victories!
